Trout in Western Australia explores the history of the state’s freshwater fishery over the past one hundred and fifty years. From forested rivers and streams, lakes and farm dams, this meticulously researched book covering every region of the south-west of Western Australia, demonstrates the significant recreational and economic benefits of what has become an immensely popular fishery enjoyed annually by thousands of licensed anglers.
This enormous publication, produced with Fremantle Press as publishing consultants, explores the 150-year history of trout acclimatisation and freshwater angling in this State. Richly illustrated with 254 photographs across 480 pages, the book also reviews the state of the south-west freshwater fishery and outlines contemporary fisheries management in our rivers, streams and lakes. Trout in Western Australia is arranged into 14 regionally-focused chapters covering each district of the south-west, from Gingin to Albany. Among the chapters are interspersed ‘Fish Tales’ which highlight some of the people and events that have marked the development of the inland fishery. Aspects of trout biology and aquatic ecology are also covered.
The book is available in two formats; a standard cloth-bound hardcover version and a special leather-bound, signed and numbered edition limited to 150 copies, to mark the 150th anniversary of the first propagation of trout at Albany in 1874.
